Last week I started playing Ravenwood Fair on Facebook. It was weird for me because I'd already played Cafe World, started a small farm on Farmville, and dug for treasure on Treasure Isle. I even did the whole Mafia Wars and Hotel City thing...but that was a looong time ago. And I had figured out pretty early on that logging onto those games and going "click-click-click" and asking for energy packs was a complete waste of my time - and boring...just sayin'.
So why the renewed interest in a completely moronic game? (By moronic I mean unthinking and unchallenging - not that people who play the games are morons - because then I would be calling myself a moron...)
It was because by playing Ravenwood Fair I was feeling successful. It was something I could *actually* do. I could "click-click-click" and chop down a bunch of trees. I could wack a Domovio, collect tree sap, construct food carts, and build games for my fair visitors. I watched my 'fun meter' rise and got an increase in visitors. And maybe...eventually...if I worked hard enough at my fair...there would be a wedding! (Unless I was away from my fair too long, then my fair would be over grown with Dark Roots and I'd have to spend most of my valuable energy digging them out.)
Every where else in my life where I was feeling unsucsessful was being numbed by this damn Facebook game. I quit today. I let it go. Ravenswood Fair ended up like all the other Facebook games I've played - on the blocked list.
I guess I'll spend those few extra moments being a more successful me and doing something productive like working on my new blog layout, cooking, or playing Rock Band.
*Oh, when I said "ended up like all the other Facebook games I've played - on the block list", that didn't include Scrabble. If you want to play Facebook Scrabble with me, I'm all game!

Freezer Hide and Seek
From time to time I play a little game with my family. It's called something like..."How Long Can Mom Go Without Stopping At The Grocery Store?" or I like to call it "How Creative Can Mom Get Before We Refuse To Eat?" We've been playing the game this past week. We did really great until Sunday. Sunday was Easter and we had a wonderful dinner, while visiting family. But, we came home late and hungry.
I scanned the freezer and fridge. I decided to make some sort of creamy-lemon-caper-chicken-pasta thing. I was tired though and really did not feel like cooking. Natron made me a deal that we could order Chinese food for dinner if I could order for less then $20. DEAL!!! We had Chinese, sent the kids to bed, and all was good at the Olson House.
The next day for dinner I looked in the fridge for the chicken I had taken out the night before. Hmph. I can't find it. I search the freezer. No luck. Well, that's weird. I *know* I took it out to defrost because I was going to use it. What the heck? I search the fridge again.....and the freezer. Wow, it's no where to be found. And then I open the microwave...yep, there it is. Nasty, defrosted, ruined chicken. Did it wreck my game? Oh no, it just ended up getting a bit more interesting :)
Monday I made some sort of pork chop stir fry. Tuesday we had pork chop, rice, frozen veggie hotdish. (Nasty, but the kids ate it up like crazy!) Wednesday we had venison stroganoff on spaghetti noodles (totally klassy) and tonight....well crap. I'm out of proteins.
We had nine chicken nuggets that I split between the three kids. Then they ate up what was left of the noodles (no sauce) and hotdish. BUT WAIT. What is that shiny package at the back of the freezer? A rouge package of pork chops? I squeal with delight! I rip open the package and find: A FREAKING PORTION OF GROUND BEEF!!! SCORE! Thursday night ends with Italian Nachos (tortilla chips topped with beef - browned with the rest of the bruschetta I had in the fridge, and mozzarella cheese). It's Friday tomorrow and I get to go shopping. Team Olson wins!

Sorry

I love games. One of my all time favorites is Sorry and this is why: Even if it looks like you are destined to lose, you might end up the winner.
For example, today I was playing Sorry and eating sugar cookies with my oldest (The Social Guy) and my youngest (The Brainiac). They each had three of their pawns at home with only one more pawn to go. I, on the other hand, had three pawns at start and only one home. Guess who won? ME!
Because Sorry is just like 'life'....sometimes it might look and feel like you're losing, but you just can't tell how, when, or where you'll end the game.

Family Business
We opened a family business a couple weeks ago. We did it without a business plan or start up capital, in fact it happened by accident. I hadn't even realized what I was doing as I was setting it up. You see, our family now owns and operates 'The MFP Eatery' in Cafe World on Facebook. We all take turns making food, waiting tables, and decorating the cafe. It's been fun and cute watching the kids decide what to cook and how to lay out the tables, chairs, kitchen, and waiting station so that we get the quickest service and highest buzz rating.
We've cooked too many dishes and we've had to toss some out. We've gone from a buzz rating of over 100, all the way down to about 30. Our daily conversation has been spiced up with questions like:
"How much longer on that roast?" "How many more servings of fruit salad are there?" "Should we get more Christmas decorations?" "Hey, what's the current buzz rating?" "Did you get something on the stove?" "What are you cooking?"
Have you ever started something little and silly for yourself and have it turn into a fun, family event?
***We're still working a bit on the new layout. If you are having trouble commenting on the blog, try hitting the 'tab' key for the verification word to show up correctly. Thanks for your patience.***

I know I've only been with you for a few months and while I find your "minute man" mentality severely addicting you must know that I am struggling to stay in love with you. You see I have a very competitive nature and I yearn to be victorious and at the top of the leader board of all my friends. I have always felt that if I had just a little more then one damn minute I could win that weekly tournament *at least* once. Maybe with more then one minute of action I could eventually claim that coveted number one spot!
So I must tell you that I've been seeing someone else. He's a lot like you. He looks similar to you but with slightly different coloring and yeah, the sounds are a bit off. BUT...his game lasts longer then a minute, you know what I mean? It's long enough to keep me interested but not so long I end up with carpel tunnel. I can really get into the game and what do you know....I'm now a top scorer :)
Don't worry my Dear Bejeweled Blitz I'll be back, because there's nothing like a quickie in the middle of the afternoon...
